Grey's Anatomy: No Man's Land Review

Have you ever been looked down upon for doing something solely because you are a woman? This actually happens a lot more than it should. In the Grey’s Anatomy episode No Man’s Land, other doctors at the hospital find out that Doctor Izzie Stevens was a lingerie model for a magazine. She is harassed because of this and struggles to gain respect. In this essay, I will argue that many women are harassed for doing things with their own bodies when it is their own personal right.

In this Grey’s Anatomy episode, the story line talks about Doctor Izzie Stevens and how she modeled for a lingerie magazine in order to get money to pay off her student loans. Doctor Alex Karev makes sure to inform everyone in the hospital about her modeling in an effort to make her feel bad about herself. Doctor Stephens confronts Alex about this and says, “Gather around and check out the booty that put Izzie Stevens through Med school! You wanna call me Dr. Model? That's fine. But just remember that while you're still sitting on 200 grand in student loans, I'm out of debt” (Izzie Stevens). After this, everyone stopped talking and started to realize they were wrong for disrespecting and harassing her.

This is important because it shows how often women today are shamed for things they do with their own bodies. This relates to this course because women in today’s world are confronted with this problem fairly often. Many people are harassed because of things that they did with their own bodies. Women are shamed for this while men are praised. Women deserve to be able to do what they want with their own bodies and not be shamed. This is a huge recurring problem that affects a lot of people and we need to do what we can to change this.
